Is Abortion Morally Right or Wrong?
The abortion issue can be answered very easily. The
question boils down to this: Is the fetus inside the mother’s
womb a human life or not? If it is a human life, then it has
ever right to live. If it is not a life, then what is it? All
scientific and Biblical evidence proves that it is a human
life. According to Acts 17:25, it is God who “giveth to all life,
and breath, and all things.” Luke 1:36-44 speaks of Elizabeth’
s pregnancy. Notice a few facts about this: (1) It was the
sixth month of her pregnancy (v. 36). (2) According to v. 41 &
44, the bade “leaped in her womb.” This obviously indicates
life. (3) The word “bade” is from the Greek word brephos.
This Greek word is used throughout the New Testament to
identify a human infant either born or unborn. For example,
in Luke 2:12, 16, the word is used to refer to Jesus when he
was a "bade." However, in this instance, it refers to a
human infant that had been born. Therefore, the Holy Spirit
of God did not make a distinction between the unborn child
and the born child. The same word is used. God said to
Jeremiah in Jer. 1:5, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew
thee; and before thou comest forth out of the womb I sanctified
thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” Since the
life inside the mother’s womb is human life, created in the
image and likeness of God (Gen. 1:26-27), to take that life
deliberately and willingly is to commit murder. Proverbs 6:16-
17 tells us that God hates the “hands that shed innocent
blood.”
According to our Constitution, every human has the right
to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This includes
the unborn. If not, why not? Thanks to Roe vs. Wade in
1973, the law of the land now gives women the protection to
have the right to have an abortion. However, this is bad law
on two fronts: (1) It goes against what the constitution
explicitly states, and (2) It is bad moral law for it involves the
murder of an innocent human life. So, the issue is very
simply solved for those who respect all life as made in the
image and likeness of God. Abortion is morally wrong!
